It's Sneaker Season! Learn About How to Clean Your Athletic Footwear Properly!

As warmer weather approaches many of you are probably looking to grab those sneakers out of the back of the closet and get ready to get outside. After dragging them out of the back of your closet they probably could use a good cleaning before getting back out with them. Well, we have exactly the products you need to get the job done.

The first step to making your sneakers look clean and fresh for the spring is to wipe off any surface dirt like caked-on mud or salt with a stiff brush. A nylon brush would do the trick rather well. After doing that you can, if you are so inclined, remove the laces before the next step.

After getting the surface dirt off, spray and cover the shoe with a foam cleaner. (Either Angelus Foam-Tex or Angelus All-Purpose Foam Cleaner will do fine). Use the brush to scrub small circles cleaning off the shoe all the way around. Once the foam settles and you have scrubbed off visible dirt wipe the shoe off with a cloth (either the microfiber cloth in the FoamTex kit or a regular shine cloth works). Once everything is wiped clear then let the shoe dry for 5-10 min afterward and reassemble if you removed the laces.

If you’re working with a white shoe and want the color to really pop, you can then apply Saphir White Novelys to the white areas of the shoe and let that dry for an additional 15 min. Once you’ve wrapped up, your sneakers should look all freshened up for the nice weather and just in time to head outside.
